Vintage Afghans

Crocheted Granny Square Afghan - Multicolored Squares - $16
I remember making an afghan just like this back in the 70's. I think the square design was one of the few patterns I was able to remember. The color combination really pops against the black. This is the perfect size for covering up with on the sofa at 31"x 51". The weight and quality of yarn are great, and it looks like it was never used. It's been freshly laundered and ready to enjoy!

Crocheted Afghan - Large Size in Cool 1970's Colors - $20
Wow does this scream 1970's or what! Vibrant green, orange and gold really make this afghan special. It's a large size at 55" x 69".
It's big enough to be used on a queen size bed. Made of very heavy yarn in a square block pattern. A real handmade find in great shape and freshly laundered.

Crocheted Memories......
I've had a love-hate relationship with crochet my whole life.......
Mom spent months making these Christmas outfits for us. Irene looks cute, but I have to say this was one of the worst days of my life! For some reason my skirt and vest seem to be two sizes too small.........I hate red, and does anyone realy think that hat looks good?

This is one of a handful of crocheted afghans I made in my teens. I never learned to read a pattern book like Mom, but she could teach me a design, and if it was simple enough I could repeat it over and over again.
Mom's made thousands of projects through the years. She started crocheting doilies as a young girl and years later even taught herself how to knit. No pattern was ever too hard for her, she might complain about it in the end but she always finished a project once she started it.
I don't know whatever happened to my groovy afghan, and we don't have many of Mom's creations left either.......but there are hundreds of baby blankets in circulation that she gave as gifts. Who knows maybe the next one I buy at the thrift store will be one of her much loved works of yarn-art!.....................Jolene
